It was important for me to attend the ceremony today to mark the 10 year anniversary of the Canberra Bushfires. This was an important marker in time for many of us – ‘before’ the fires and ‘after’ the fires. Like others present I remember the day clearly and have my own story of fear, action, confusion and relief. I was lucky. Some tears today, and some reminders that Canberra has heart and soul – we proved it! Thanks to all the emergency personnel and ‘the firies’, thanks to others who joined me in the recovery centre to help, thanks to all for the small acts of kindness that mark that time. My thoughts are also with the many who are fearful today – across this hot and windy country.
