I am beginning to design the fieldwork component of my research.  I have visited the Lockyer Valley in Queensland, and now the Tasman Peninsula in Tasmania.  Both areas devastated by disasters, both with communities trying to recover, rebuild, re-establish themselves.  Interestingly both communities have established Facebook pages as part of their recovery processes.  The Lockyer Valley Council has established a presence on Facebook – to assist in engaging with the community about all sorts of issues.  Mel Irons has established a page – Tassie Fires, We can help – in response to the Tasmania Fires that has galvanised groups and individuals in response to those fires.  It is easy to be inspired by stories of courage, and ‘can do’ – two essential elements of resilience.
